

Early Life and Education
Carol Meijer was born on the 16th of August 1943 in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago to Leonard & Mary Bayne. She was raised in Port of Spain and Cherry Hill, NJ and pursued her education at Dowling College, completing a bachelor’s in English literature.
Career and Accomplishments
Following the completion of her education, Carol embarked on a professional journey in all things travel. She began her career at Air Canada in New York and retired from American Express Corporate Travel in Orlando, Florida, bookending a lifelong passion for traveling all over the world which she was able to do through her chosen career path.
Family and Personal Life
Carol met her husband Robert Meijer while she was working for the British Ambassador in Trinidad. After moving to the Netherlands, where Robert served in the Royal Dutch Navy, they had one child, Catherine Anne Meijer. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and later Oma and held God and family above all. Through her travels she met many people all over the world and treasured lifelong friendships. She loved entertaining friends and family and took pride in cooking gourmet meals served at her famous dinner parties. She was a devoted Oma attending school events, sports games and birthday celebrations. She derived great joy from traveling, attending the Opera and symphony, laughing with friends, spending time in New Smyrna Beach and finding joy in all of life’s moments. She was a passionate and generous community supporter, an active member of her church choir at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (singing for the Pope in 2003), and the Emeritus Board of Opera Orlando serving as one of the founding board members for Florida Opera Theater.
Legacy and Remembrance
Carol Meijer leaves behind a legacy marked by resilience, strength, grace, kindness, generosity, and dedication to friends and family. Her life had a profound impact on many through her warmth, compassion, and humor. Carol will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Survived By
Carol is survived by her daughter, Catherine Beck, granddaughter Charlotte “Charlie” Beck, sister Bridget “Biddy” Hyatt and five nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Meijer, parents Leonard and Mary Bayne, sister Elizabeth “Betty” Guy and niece Johanna Guy-Wilson.
Services
A funeral service will be conducted on the 22nd of February at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, located at 526 N Park Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789 at 11 am with reception to follow in the parish hall. A celebration of life will be held on the 23rd of February 2025 at the Winter Park Racquet Club at 12 pm .
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made to Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation or Opera Orlando in Carol Meijer’s memory.
