Our tough & tender guy is back with his bride. We already miss his wit, and his ways…
Charles was born on November 25, 1940 in Oak Park, Illinois, the third of six children born to the late Stuart & Laura (Nieting) Timm. Raised in Elmwood Park, IL, he attended John Mills Elementary School and graduated from Elmwood Park High School in 1958. He attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier to study accounting. But the pressure of attending college while holding down two jobs, proved to be too much.
He often spoke of his love of working for Wilson Sporting Goods and the neighborhood deli as a teen. He served his country in the National Guard and as a Reservist in the U.S. Army from December 1963, until he was honorably discharged in August 1969.
Charlie’s career began at Oak Park Trust and Savings Bank. He worked there from 1959 to 1966, beginning as a bookkeeper in the savings department, and progressing through various jobs including teller and commercial loan bookkeeper. The bank made a decision to purchase a computer in 1962. He was tested for aptitude and passed with flying colors! He spent the last 4 ½ years there designing and programming applications that included Proof and Transit, DDA, Savings & Mortgages.
While working at the bank, he met the woman he would spend his life with, Sabina Krawczyk. When he greeted her with his infamous sarcasm, she did not like him…then she had to have him, and chased him until she caught him! They married on October 30, 1965.
He and his bride settled in Lombard, IL, moving into their first home in October 1967. There they welcomed two daughters, Jennifer Louise (November, 1967) and Allison Rae (September, 1970). They had a rich social life that included both individual and mixed bowling leagues, neighborhood picnics and outings. In addition, Charlie loved golfing, and if he was taken fishing by his son-in-law, he soaked that up to.
Charlie continued his career of computer programmer and manager of systems software working at Burroughs Corporation from 1966 to 1973, and then Online Financial Services Inc. (formerly known as Federal Home Loan Bank) from 1973 to 1980.
In late 1979, he was presented with an opportunity to move to Florida, working as a Senior Systems Analyst for Florida Software Services (aka Kirchman Corporation). He accepted the position and moved his family to Fern Park, FL in early 1980. He promised his daughters a pool, if they would go with him. And he made good on that promise!
He eventually left Kirchman Corporation, working for Data Dimensions which was then sold to FIS. He retired at 75 from FIS, located in Maitland, FL.
No matter where his life took him, he maintained his allegiances to his Chicago Cubs & Bears, but he soon adopted the Orlando Magic, even though they were hard to love. It was a dream come true to watch his beloved Cubbies win the 2016 World Series. In fact, he recently watched the series played in re-runs.
He was handy around the house with all sorts of things, and ended up building a house for the stray cats that he swore the girls could not have. He still read the newspaper daily, from cover-to-cover, and dove into its daily crosswords and Sudoku puzzles not for the faint of heart. He loved to read murder mysteries on his Kindle, and then would swap with his girls. And, his sharp mind came in handy when Charles went to have some fun betting on the dog races in Casselberry and on his trips to Vegas!
Charles was committed to his Lutheran faith, attending churches both in the Chicago area and here in Casselberry. He attended Zoar Lutheran Church in Elmwood Park as a child, and raised his daughters at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Lombard, IL, and Ascension Lutheran Church in Casselberry, FL.
Ultimately he was a simple man, “a bear with furniture”, his girls lovingly joke. Give him a Manhattan on the rocks, a country song, and his Family.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sabina; his loving parents, Stuart H. and Laura Nieting Timm; and his sisters Virginia Timm and Janet Lucey, as well as his brothers-in-law, Robert Null and Tom Lucey.
Charles is survived by his adoring daughters, Jennifer Salisbury (Thornton “TC”) and Allison Gallo (Joe); his brother Ralph (Joann) Timm; his sisters Carol (Al) Wege and Linda Timm; his sister-in-law Barbara Null, 12 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
The Timm Family looks forward to inviting you to a Celebration of Charles’ Life, Saturday, July 25 at 11:00am, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Casselberry, Florida with Army Honors.
