Dean Edward Halbfoster passed away, at home, on May 21, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Dean was born on November 16, 1947, in Elizabeth, NJ and spent his formative years in Roselle, NJ. He lived in Colorado and Italy before settling as a longtime resident of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Dean will be remembered for his quiet strength, devotion to his family, and the deep love he shared with his late wife, Lynn Longdon Halbfoster. A devoted educator for much of his career, Dean had a passion for teaching and made a lasting impact on the many students he taught throughout the years. He brought to his students an excitement for learning which he hoped would follow them throughout their lives. Following his wife’s passing in 2019, Dean continued to carry her memory and remained connected to the school and its programs for a time. Both Dean and Lynn took their roles seriously and passed on a legacy of learning.
Dean’s other passion were his animals. A long list of ‘no one else wants them’ have been taken in and become part of the family. All the strays found a good home with both Dean and Lynn. They have passed on this love and care of animals to their children. Dean believed that animals have souls.
Dean was also an artist and spent many hours perfecting his art. Family members and friends are left with these special works and will always be reminders of Dean’s talent, passion and gift for sharing. Art endures and Dean will live on, for the family, in many of these works.
Dean is survived by his children, Noah Halbfoster and his wife Katrina of Altamonte Springs, FL, and Brodie Halbfoster and his wife Liz of Fuquay-Varina, NC; his stepdaughters, Tyler Pieropan and her husband David, and Bailey Baran and her husband Chris of DeLand, FL; his sister, Deborah Halbfoster and her husband Selden of Oceanport, NJ: his brother Christopher Halbfoster and his wife Ginger of Santa Rosa, FL . He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Aiden and Evylee Halbfoster, and Kylie and Carter Baran, along with extended family and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Dean’s family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with Lynn, his soulmate and wife of 18 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Dean’s memory.
