Dixie was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio January 13, 1942. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1960 and pursued her lifelong passion to teach young children with a BS in education from Bowling Green State University in 1964. After teaching the early elementary years in Upper Arlington and Wooster, Ohio, she moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina where she continued teaching and pursued a Master's Degree in education from Winthrop College. Moving to Columbia, South Carolina, she continued to teach early childhood students.
After moving to Altamonte Springs, Dixie expanded her influence on young students, teaching the gifted and talented in Seminole County schools, ultimately accepting a position as Guidance Counselor. She always viewed her young charges as her own kids.
After retiring in 2008, Dixie continued to connect with "her kids" through visits to the schools where she used her puppets to tell stories and entertain the children.
Dixie was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Key Women Educators and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her brother Jack Bartlett and his wife Marilyn, of North Carolina, Nephews and Nieces, Grand Nephews and Nieces in North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
A celebration of Dixie's life will be held in Altamonte Springs, FL at a date to be announced later. Dixie will be buried in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
