Donald C. Steward was born November 26, 1943 in Tampa, Florida to parents Edward John Steward and Elizabeth Lane Steward. He went to be with the lord on October 15, 2024 at the age of 80.
Don grew up in Florida and was the youngest of five boys. He loved playing in the local creek and he and his brothers would have to be hosed off before coming back into the house. Even as a child he loved traveling, recounting memories of eating spaghetti with piles of cheese and playing on a boat while it navigated rough seas on his trip to Europe with his father and brother Richard.
He graduated from Fort Myers High School and then moved to Georgia where he earned some credits from Georgia Tech University.
He later moved to California where he met Vangie Steward. They were married August 13, 1982 and she remained his loving wife until his passing. They had two daughters together, Scarlet Steward and Suzette Holton. Don loved California and took frequent trips with his family to Yosemite, San Francisco, San Diego, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Pasadena, and the beautiful California beaches. He traveled with his family to neighboring states such as Arizona and Nevada and also travelled to Mexico. Don was active in his church and hosted Christian gathers in his home. He owned a business importing leather goods from Mexico.
In 1989 he relocated his family to Tampa, Florida and then to Orlando, Florida in 1990 where he lived for the rest of his life. He loved exploring Florida, frequently making family trips to the springs and beaches to go snorkeling and swimming. Don read books on a daily basis and had a particular passion for historical and Christian literature although he also enjoyed science fiction. He loved going to the movies. He enjoyed watching Christian television but would also watch Star Trek Next Generation every afternoon after work.
He remained a devout Christian until the end of his life. His favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Don is survived by his wife Vangie Steward, brother Richard Lane Steward, daughters Suzette Holton, Scarlet Steward, and Angie Rutherford, and grandchildren Jeremy Holton, Hayden Lucca, Hayley Lucca, Virgil Mair, Astrid Mair, Jessica Evans, and Christina Richardson. He is preceded in death by his brothers Glenn Edward Steward, Earl Wayne Steward, and James Albert Steward.
