In 1953, Erika immigrated with her family from Germany to Rhode Island, beginning a new chapter marked by courage, adaptability, and hope. It was there that she met her U.S. Marine sweetheart, Raymond D. Corp.
Their love story began young and endured faithfully—culminating in marriage on December 23, 1962. They shared 63 devoted years together, building a life rooted in commitment, laughter, and deep affection.
Erika was a beautiful, fun, and deeply loving woman whose greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to three children—Michael Corp (Sharon), Michelle Carey, and Kimberly Theroux (Mark)—and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother who delighted in every generation that followed.
She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jackie Peardon (Jake), Stephen Corp (Renee’), Brendon Carey, Erik Theroux, Alison Dorr (Alex), Sean Theroux (Jaclyn), Olivia Carr (Matt), and Ryan Theroux (Rachel); and nine cherished great-grandchildren: Garrett, Michaela, and Collin Peardon; Avery and Nathan Corp; Scarlett and Jackson Dorr; Stella Carr and Theodore Theroux.
For many years, Erika worked faithfully as the office manager at Corbro, where she was known for her diligence, reliability, and care for others. In 1998, she and Ray retired to Florida full-time, enjoying seasons of life together in Zellwood, Umatilla, and Apopka before later moving to Jacksonville to receive assisted living care.
Throughout her life, Erika was active in church and deeply grounded in her faith. Erika loved the Lord, knew Jesus Christ as her Savior, and lived with a steady confidence in God’s promises. Her faith shaped her character, guided her decisions, and sustained her through every season of life.
In her final days, surrounded by love, her family came together in unity and peace, entrusting her care to hospice and to the Lord she faithfully served. While her family grieves her loss, they do so with hope—rejoicing in the assurance that Erika is fully restored, healed, and joyfully present with her Savior in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Elise Diegel; her brother, John Diegel; and her beloved grandson, Nicholas Carey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Creekside Christian Church, 150 Lifespring Way, St Johns, FL 32259.
Erika’s life leaves a lasting legacy of faith, devotion, strength, and love—one that will continue to bless her family for generations to come.
