Evelyn Governale

Evelyn Governale, 96, of Longwood, FL passed away on August 27, 2017. She was born to the late Charles and Josephine Geyer in Brooklyn, NY on March 20, 1921. Evelyn worked as a first grade teacher in New York. She played a large role in the opening of a preschool in connection with her church while in New York as well. In 1967, Evelyn moved with her family to Longwood, FL where she resided in the same home until 2014. Evelyn was an active member of Annunciation Catholic Church where she oversaw the religious article center from 1987 until 2001. She was also a volunteer in the media center at Annunciation Catholic School and the Christian Sharing Center. Evelyn was a member of the St. Joan of Arc prayer circle. She was also a very active and dedicated member of her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. Evelyn was also a part of a Bridge playing club. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family and adored living on Lake Brantley where she observed many beautiful sunsets and fireworks on holidays. Evelyn was a very generous and caring person. She gave back as much as she could, and she was very strong and never wanted to give up. Her family is grateful to say she remained sharp throughout her 96 years of life. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Evelyn was preceded in passing by her husband of 38 years, Melchiore J. Governale Sr. and her sister Charlotte Brown.

She is survived by her children Mel Governale and his wife Betty, Lynne Grimaldi, and Bill Governale and his wife Lori; grandchildren Rick, Michael, Bill, Joe, Christina, and Melissa; and great-grandchildren Rick, Anthony, Luke, Claire, Ashley, and Michael.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 30 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Baldwin Fairchild East Altamonte, 994 E Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home on Thursday, August 31 at 10:00 am. Interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789.
