He was born on August 4, 1926 to Anna (McCaffrey) and John Cashin in an Irish Catholic house in Brockton, Massachusetts. As a teenager, he began his government service working in the post office. Upon graduation from Brockton High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as an airman gunner in World War II from 1944 – 1946. Through the support of the GI Bill, he attended University of Miami and majored in accounting. He was an active member of the founding chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. After graduating from college, he took a job as a Special Agent with the FBI and worked in New York City and Washington, D.C. He obtained an MBA from New York University. After 26 years with the FBI, he retired and moved to Florida. He was the Head of Security and Vice President of SunTrust Bank until his retirement in 1994.
Frank met his wife Nina in New York and they married in 1965. Together they raised five children – Daniel, Michael, Megan, Mara, and Suzanne. He and Nina loved to travel throughout the United States and internationally. Upon Nina’s untimely death in 1997, Frank began regular summer trips to Cape Cod with his ever-growing family. He loved New England and enjoyed these times over the years with his kids and grandkids.
He was an active member of Annunciation Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, and Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Annina Faber Cashin, his brother Robert, and two nephews – Billy and Bobby Burchard. He is survived by his sister, Mary Burchard of Weston, MA, and his five loving children Daniel (Cathy) of Tallahassee, FL, Michael (Kate) of Houston, TX, Megan (Tim) Pawlik of Columbus, OH, Mara (Matt) Ryan of Longwood, FL, and Suzanne (Jon) Heller of Richmond, VA. He loved his grandchildren and delighted in watching them grow – Matthew, Katie, Drew, Molly, Annie, Caroline, Patrick, Emma, Jack, Michael, Lucy, Nora, and Andrew. We will all miss him, his witty sense of humor, his Irish limerick writing, his enjoyment of musicals and theater, his love of college sports, his appreciation for the perfect bowl of clam chowder, and for loving us all unconditionally.
Our mother said before her passing “We all must go through a period of suffering. From a long period of happiness to a short period of pain to an eternity of joy.” We are comforted they are together again.
We would especially like to thank VITAS Healthcare and his private caregivers Jessica, Tammy, and Florence who ensured he lived his final years with dignity.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL, 32714.
