Francis B Twitty, 94, of Orlando, formerly of Sebring, LaBelle, and Apopka, passed away March 28, 2022. Francis was born June 15, 1927, in Highlands County, Florida, to Judson Hand Twitty, Sr. and Elise Wilson Twitty. He was a longtime member of Calvary Orlando and most recently a member of Lockhart Baptist Church.
Francis is survived by his three daughters: Frances Ann (John) Gillette of Charlotte, NC, Joy M. Twitty of Orlando, Patti L. (Steve) Clack of Orlando; and sister-in-law, Geraldine Nobles (Jim) Boatman of LaBelle, FL; six grandchildren: Christiana, John, Sarah, Ivy, Samuel, and Audrey; six great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Francis is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Ann Burchard Twitty; his parents, Judson and Elise; his brother, Judson, Jr; his sister, Martha Twitty Eubanks; and grandson, Hunter Francis Gillette.
Francis grew up in Sebring helping his father work the homestead, returning weekly after retirement to manage the family grove. He served in the Army (1950-52), worked for the Forestry Division of the State of Florida, and for the Florida Highway Patrol (1958-89) as a state trooper.
Francis was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. He loved to serve, whether it was helping someone stranded on the side of the road or greeting and guiding the many who attended church with him. Not only did he serve as an usher for thirty-five years at Calvary, but he and Shirley opened their home, spontaneously hosting and serving neighbors, servicemen, and family friends.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Calvary Orlando, 1199 Clay St, Winter Park, FL 32789, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
