It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Don Francisco Heriberto De Jesús, who was called to the Lord on April 30, 2023, at the age of 99 years young. He was a loving, husband father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. A proud veteran who served his country as a member of the Army’s 65th Infantry known as the Borinqueneers with honor and bravery during the World War II and the Korean War.
Francisco Heriberto, was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on March 9, 1924. The oldest of six children, his strong work ethic started at the young age of 14. He worked in a pharmacy, millinery, rum factory, shoe store, and a hardware store before he went into the Army in 1943. In 1945, he was deployed where he fought valiantly in World War II and the Korean War.
After his service, he returned to Puerto Rico where he married and started a family with seven children in the growing suburb of Villa Borinquen. Quite the bowler, he was able to join the ABC Bowling Tour where he got to again travel the world. Francisco Heriberto then went on to become a successful businessman owning Heryk’s Mens Store, a clothing boutique for men in the metropolitan area that was a staple in the community until 1978 when he joined with his family in Orlando, Florida.
In Orlando, Francisco Heriberto again gave back to society as a parishioner for several Catholic churches, working with the migrant population for Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), and helping to start the Puerto Rican Social Club.
Francisco Heriberto was known for his infectious personality and his love of music, which he shared with everyone he met. He was an amazing domino player and could always be counted on to bring a smile to your face with his incredible dance moves or enthusiastic storytelling.
He is survived by a very large family and community of cherished friends who will miss him dearly but will carry his memory and spirit with us each and every day.
Es con gran pesar que anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestro querido Don Francisco Heriberto De Jesús, quien fue llamado al Señor el 30 de abril de 2023, a la edad de 99 años. Fue un padre, padrastro, abuelo, hermano, esposo, tío y amigo amoroso para muchos. Un orgulloso veterano que sirvió a su país como miembro de la 65ª Infantería del Ejército conocida como los Borinqueneers con honor y valentía durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y la Guerra de Corea.
Francisco Heriberto, nació en Ponce, Puerto Rico el 9 de marzo de 1924. El mayor de seis hijos, su fuerte ética de trabajo comenzó a la temprana edad de 14 años. Trabajó en una farmacia, sombrerería, fábrica de ron, una tienda de zapatos y una ferretería antes de ingresar al ejército en 1943. En 1945, fue llamado a servir a nuestra nación, donde luchó valientemente en la 2da Guerra Mundial y en la Guerra de Corea.
Después de su servicio, regresó a Puerto Rico, donde se casó y comenzó una familia con siete hijos en el creciente suburbio de Villa Borinquen. Todo un jugador de bolos, pudo unirse al ABC Bowling Tour, donde pudo viajar nuevamente por el mundo. Francisco Heriberto luego se convirtió en un exitoso hombre de negocios dueño de Heryk's Mens Store, una boutique de ropa para hombres en el área metropolitana, que fue un elemento básico en la comunidad hasta 1978 cuando se unió con su familia en Orlando, Florida.
En Orlando, Francisco Heriberto nuevamente contribuyó a la sociedad como feligrés de varias iglesias católicas, trabajando con la población migrante para las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Orange (OCPS) y ayudando a iniciar el Club Social Puertorriqueño.
