Cary, a life-long Floridian, was the only son of Francis Marion Smith and Dorothy Helen Norman. He had a love for the outdoors which began early; he spent every minute he could in the woods and waters of north-central Florida. He turned his talent for engineering into a career as an aviation mechanic, and spent decades maintaining commercial and privately owned aircraft. All who knew Cary would say he was a warm hearted goofball, who lived life on his own terms and was happiest on a quiet body of water as the sun came up (usually with a fishing pole in his hand). He loved to laugh and joke, and tell tall tales - always with a twinkle in his eye. His favorite things included classic rock, motorcycles, kitties, puttering at his workbench, and being a girl dad. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Cary is survived by his beloved wife, Jamie Watson; daughters Courtney Smith, Aubrey (Smith) Bonsal, and Emily Smith; grandchildren Addie and Thane Bonsal; his sister Tracy Williams and nephew Spencer Williams. A private celebration of life will be held later in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the Wekiva River (https://www.friendsofwekiva.org/).
