

Steve was born August 24, 1955 in Randolph County, NC, son of the late Morris Eugene Cockman and the late Nell Marie Cockman. Angela, his wife of 36 years, predeceased him, as did his brother, Dean. Survivors include his three children: Shanna Reyes (JP) and Ryan Cockman (Sasha) of Winter Park, and Tara Clayton (Bo) of Durham, NC; seven beloved grandchildren: Addison and Nate Windle; Ashton Forrestal; Wesley Cockman; and Bowden, Parks, and Annabelle Clayton; and his sister, Sheila Pifer.
Steve moved to Florida with his family in the 1970s and attended Lyman High School. In 1978, he received a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Steve and Angela moved to Winter Park in 1995. Steve was President of Traffic Control Devices, Inc., a leading construction company in the Orlando area since 1978. TCD specializes in the design, construction, implementation, and maintenance of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects and their associated communications, control, and display hardware systems. Notable projects include the recently completed Ultimate I-4 project as well as the City of Tampa ATMS project.
He was a member of Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Parish in Altamonte Springs. Steve never met a house project he couldn’t conquer. He was a long-time supporter of the Florida Young Artists Orchestra, Davidson College, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A Memorial Service will take place Tuesday, February 18 at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Parish.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
