

James was born in Calhoun County, Anniston, Alabama on October 28th 1935. He served in the Air Force as the Crew Chief Aircraft Mechanic of an F-86 Jet Fighter in Korea from 1954-1957. He was a Crane Operator early in his career and mastered the art of drywall, owning his own business before he retired. An artist as well who created many artworks for his family and friends.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, a beautiful sunny day, watching nature outside, always looking forward to a good day. If he knew someone in need, he would offer a helping hand and was admired by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife whom he adored Janet Gilliland, his daughters Deborah Brooks, Wendy Bieberle, Cynthia Cooper and husband Eddie Cooper. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Adam Gilliland and Liberty Belle Puckett, his daughter Rebecca Kenniston, grandson Cameron Bieberle, his great-grandchildren Alyssa Leonard, Brayden Hand, and Steven Hand, Jr.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at Baldwin-Fairchild East Altamonte, 994 E Altamonte Dr, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32701, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A private family service and burial will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
