James Thomas Lickteig, “Jim,” was born in Miami on June 4th, 1952. As he released his daughter’s hand, he took Jesus’ hand on May 22, 2026 in Winter Park, Florida . He was predeceased by his parents John and Donna Lickteig and his brother, John Lickteig. He is survived by his son and daughters Cara LeighAnn Lickteig and Crista Lickteig Pfeiffer (husband, Thomas) and his two beloved granddaughters, Annika and Amelia Pfeiffer.
As a child, Jim and his family spent a great deal of time on the water and fishing. The salt air and sunlight became a way of life and created lasting memories for him. His eyes were the color of the ocean with the sun dancing on the water on a clear day.
Jim began to study martial arts when he was young, and he was recognized as a Grand Master in Wu Shu. He also achieved a rank of black belt in Aikido. For several years he taught and opened his own martial arts studio, a business he maintained for a few years.
During his lifetime, Jim developed a strong love of music. As a child he began his music instruction by learning to play the piano. He later played the flugelhorn and marched in his high school band. Perhaps his best instrument was his own voice. While he was a student at Seminole Community College (now Seminole State College) he sang in Chorus multiple semesters. He sang in a church choir and for a period of time, he served as Choir Director.
Woodworking was always a favorite hobby for Jim. His skill and attention to detail resulted in many fine pieces of furniture and artwork. He also did a significant amount of antique restoration.
Jim settled in Central Florida in the mid-70’s and made his home in Casselberry in 1975, where he lived for fifteen years. This was when he married and became father to three children. He then returned to South Florida where he worked as a curator for Beaux Arts for over three decades. In his time there, there was not a door left unopened for a lady, a smile not brought to a stranger, a kind word not shared in passing, nor a deep belly laugh not had.
Throughout his life, he loved his children dearly. He was very proud of their accomplishments, and he enjoyed spending time with them. The arrival of his grandbabies proved to be one of the greatest highlights of his life. Jim loved his friends as family, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for family! There are too many friends to name, but if you were fortunate enough to be one of his, you know he loved you. He truly never met a stranger—from his cherished co-worker Jose, to his beloved boss, he was friends with absolutely everybody. He had a rare gift for making people feel seen and valued and left a lasting impression on every life he touched.
Jim returned to Central Florida and spent his last two years at Allegro where he flourished and found many new friends. The staff and residents alike became new members of his adopted family. Jim will be remembered for his warm smile, great hugs, and spirit of generosity. He was known for his warmth and kindness.
A graveside service will be held at All Faiths Memorial Park, 1390 Park Dr, Casselberry, FL 32707, on May 28, 2026, at 11:00 am.
