Janice Kolker Desabrais passed away on June 14, 2024, at the age of 79. She was born in Dayton, OH, on November 10, 1944. She lived in Ohio until she was 3, when her family moved to East Jordan, MI. They eventually settled in Muskegon, MI. Janice was one of 7 children and had many fond memories of growing up in a large family. She graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1962 and started her career at General Telephone and Electronics shortly after.
Janice met the love of her life, David Desabrais, in June of 1973. After a whirlwind romance, they were married less than a month later, and Janice moved to Longwood, FL, with her new husband. Janice and Dave welcomed their son, Mark, in July of 1975. They later settled in Casselberry, FL. Janice was an IT Analyst for the City of Casselberry, and retired after 35 years of dedication and hard work.
Her son, Mark, grew up playing baseball and she spent years of her life throwing with and catching for him. She and Dave also joined a co-ed mush ball team, where she played catcher. In her later years, she developed a passion for Legos. Her dining room table was always covered in a new Lego project. She and her daughter-in-law, Tiffany, had a weekly date to play Scrabble and Five Crowns. Words with Friends was also a game she enjoyed, and she often was teased about how many games she tried to play at one time. She enjoyed true crime and 1940's movies, especially, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," and anything starring Barbara Stanwyck. Her grandchildren were the great joy of her life. She adored every moment and milestone.
Janice is survived by her son, Mark Desabrais (Tiffany) of Winter Springs, FL; stepson, Dean Desabrais (Lisa) of Jeffersonton, VA; sisters Connie Kolker of Montrose, CO and Donna Patterson (Tom) of Rapid City, SD; brother Larry Kolker of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren Logan (Heather), Brooke (Trevor), Drew, and Ryan; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband, David Desabrais; parents, Carl Kolker and Rita Litkowski Kolker; and brothers Ray, Bill, and Jim Kolker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Baldwin Fairchild - 994 E. Altamonte Dr., Altamonte Springs, FL. Visitation will start at 11:00 a.m., and the celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Janice's memory to Shriners Children's, as they provided Janice's much needed back surgery as a child. Donations can be made online or mailed to Shriners Children's, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
