Jill Foster Holmen, 67, formerly of Duluth, passed away peacefully Feb. 28 at her home in Longwood, Florida. The third of six children born to Allan and Phyllis Foster of Duluth, Jill was a 1972 graduate of Duluth East High School, where she was a hockey cheerleader and Miss East candidate. She went on to earn a nursing degree at the former St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1975. She moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and then Birmingham, Alabama, before settling in the Orlando, Florida area in 1978.
She married Allen Holmen, formerly of Two Harbors, in 1977, and began a long career working as a nurse in the Florida health care system until retiring in December. The Holmens have two sons, Erik Holmen and Ian Holmen, and five grandchildren.
Although she moved away in the 1970s, Jill loved returning to Duluth, especially to the family cabin on Island Lake, which she called her favorite place. She enjoyed water-skiing, fishing, reading, and especially spending time with family, both at Island Lake and in Florida, where she lived near her sisters Judy and Janet.
Jill is survived by her husband, Allen and sons, Erik and Ian (Brit), along with her five beloved grandchildren, Myles, Mason, Lyric, Bryar and Fabyl. She is also survived by her five siblings: Judy (Terry) Ridinger, Jeff (Toni) Foster, Janet Foster, Jon Foster, and Jim (Beth) Foster. Her bright and sunny smile could light up a room, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 11 from 2:00-4:00 at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 994 East Altamont Dr, Altamont Springs, FL 32701. Masks and social distancing required.
