

She was born in Buffalo, NY on December 25, 1930. Joan earned her GED at age 52, and received her Associates in Arts degree in Hospitality from Erie Community College. Joan worked in hospitality at the Lakeview Hotel in Hamburg NY for a number of years before moving with her husband to North Port, FL where she continued serving people as a food sampler at her local Publix - a job she dearly loved, until her retirement.
She was active in the Lake Erie Beach Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, having served as past president among many other roles. She also was a devoted volunteer at various elementary schools, church camps and as a weekly helper at Key Life Network, Inc. She also had a passion for crafting, whether it be sewing, painting, needlework of all fashion or all things creative.
She was preceded in death by husband Albert John Mullen, son Wayne Douglas Mullen, grandson Bryan Christian Embree, and infant great grandson Finn Gaspar Mullen.
Joan is survived by daughter Cynthia (Mark) Miller, 5 grandsons, 5 granddaughters and 10 great grandchildren. She was also expecting her fourth great-great grandson at the end of March.
