Joe Patrick Salyer died Monday, November 26, 2018, following a lengthy illness. Born in southwest Virginia, the son of Henry and Ernestine Salyer, he grew up in Kingsport, TN. He married his childhood sweetheart, Bobbie Ruth Turner, on September 17, 1954. Joe and Bobbie were married for 59 years until her death in 2013. He began his career with United Inter-Mountain Telephone Company in the switch room and later moved into management. He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a business degree in in 1970. At the time of his retirement in 1993, he was Vice-President of Customer Service with Sprint for the state of Florida. He then started his own telecommunications support services firm, Outsource, Inc., along with his wife. He continued to work in a leadership role with Outsource until the time of his death. He is survived by two daughters, Leesa Salyer Salazar and her husband, Sergio Salazar, M.D., and Lori Salyer Hudson and her husband, Gary Hudson; seven grandchildren, Sergio Salazar Jr., Laura Salazar Casey, Anthony Salazar, Mary Salazar, Cole Hudson, Luke Hudson, and Jack Hudson; and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Ella Casey. He also leaves behind a brother, Glen Salyers, and two sisters, Shelby Hall and Etta Nickels, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Altamonte Springs, FL. A funeral service is also planned for December 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Lynn Garden Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN, followed by a Celebration of Life for family and friends at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport. Interment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Lynn Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
