Johnny Oliva, 56, of Tavares, FL passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family on November 9, 2016. Born in Long Island, NY to Frank and Pat Oliva, Johnny moved to Florida at an early age to pursue a career in ceramic tile contracting. While in Florida, and after a game of softball one day, Johnny was waited on at an Applebee’s by his future wife, Mary. The two would go on to share 25 wonderful years of marriage and memory-making together, perfectly balancing each other and displaying what can only be described as true love and partnership. Johnny’s greatest accomplishment in life was easily his marriage to Mary and the life they shared together. Johnny took great care of everything he loved, people and possessions. He and Mary proudly raised 2 children, Chris and Amanda. Johnny taught Chris many valuable lessons and helped shaped the man he is today, and with Amanda he shared a love of music and movies. He honored his own parents throughout his lifetime, sharing coffee with his father Frank every morning, and learning his gift of cooking from his mother Pat, especially her homemade ravioli. Johnny also shared a special bond through fishing with his nephew, Frankie. Professionally, Johnny owned and operated Oliva Tile along with his brother, Frank, and father. He was not only gifted in his profession, but passionate, and very much so a perfectionist. Oliva Tile has a reputation for detailed and beautiful craftsmanship, in large part due to Johnny’s dedication. When Johnny was not working, he was exercising his other passion… fishing. And not just fishing, but bass fishing. And not just once in a while; rather, Johnny fished every weekend. He was an expert bass fisherman and knew Lake Dora better than anyone. If you spotted Johnny in his “backyard paradise,” you’d always spot a Budweiser in his hand. He was adventurous and fun-loving, caring and dedicated, and overall, a great, hard-working, and joy-filled man who will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
Johnny was preceded in passing by his mother-in-law, Marilyn, who passed 20 years prior to him on the same date of November 9th. She brought him home.
Johnny is survived by his love, his wife, Mary Oliva; son, Chris Webb; daughter, Amanda Webb; parents, Frank and Pat Oliva; brother, Frank Oliva and his wife Patti; sister, Gina Macon and her husband Jim; grandson, Ryder; niece, Christina Gardner and her husband Steve; nephews, Frankie Oliva and Jimmy Macon; as well as a host of other family members and lifelong friends that will continue sharing his legacy. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on Saturday, November 12 at 6:00pm at Baldwin Fairchild East Altamonte, 994 E Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL. In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests donations be made to CAST for kids at https://impact.castforkids.org/checkout/donation?eid=69672 in memory of Johnny and his love for fishing.
