Judith Conrad-Byrne September 18, 1935 – March 28, 2017 Judith Conrad Byrne, only child of John P. Conrad and Lucille Fenton, was born in 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. Raised in Cheyenne, WY and Chicago, IL, Judy later attended Grinnell College in Iowa before moving to Massachusetts. Judy’s adventure on Cape Cod began when she saw an advertisement for a job at the landmark Orleans Inn. During her first summer on the Cape, Judy met and married William Doonan and they had three children together. She later married Donald Byrne in 1985 and they purchased Grassy Acre Cottages in Chatham, MA. Judy’s compassion and way of making everyone feel like family was evident and voiced by so many families returning to Grassy Acres year after year. When Judy was not welcoming guests or decorating the Acres for the next holiday, you could find her and Don enjoying time together lobstering, digging clams, and taking in the sunset with picnics at Paine’s Creek beach in Brewster. Judy was a very active mother and grandmother. She loved taking her grandkids hiking, biking, swimming, and especially on popcorn jobs with her popcorn wagon! Judy loved sewing and she crafted many costumes for herself and grandkids for many years. Their house in Brewster was filled with love and everyone who knew her was welcomed with open arms. Judy never met a stranger. Judy is survived by her son Stephen Doonan and wife Liza of Rochester, MA; two daughters, Elizabeth Doonan of Denmark, ME and Susan Texeira and husband William of Longwood, FL; her nieces, Anne Scharff, Sheila McClellan, Patty Sullivan, and Kathy Doonan; her nephews, Jeffrey Doonan and Timothy Doonan; her stepchildren, Kevin Byrne and wife Michelle, Terry Byrne and wife Betty, Sue Hawes and husband Daniel, and Sally Gorham. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Alexandra, Colby, Madeline, Conor, Adriana, Shea, Gia, Maya, Shannon, Jason, Ashleigh, Danielle, Eric, Amelia, and her great-granddaughter, Ava and great-grandson, Austin. A private service at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, MA will be held at a future date.
