Age 88 of Casselberry, passed away Sunday afternoon November 11, 2018.. Born in Canton, Ohio to the late Joseph and Lena Spataro, she was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, James Hawkins, her brothers, Frank and Paul Spataro, and sisters, Rosemary Vitale, Ursula Sanders and Catherine Martin. Mary was a “career woman” before the term was ever used. She was employed full time with a number of Ohio and Florida businesses from the time she was 18 until she retired at 65. She lived on two continents as well as traveled the world. She was a cook’s cook, especially when it came to Italian dishes. Ravioli, lasagna and Tripe were just a few of her specialties.
When she wasn’t with her children, grandchildren,(particularly Jimmy, her grandson with special needs who stole her heart) and great grandchildren, she was enjoying time with her many friends. Thank you especially to her close friend, Ray Dillman. They enjoyed countless hours together, at dinner, talking or just enjoying each others company. Mary was truly one of a kind. There will never be another quite like her.
Mary is survived by her four children, Lawrence (Lynette) Contrucci, Jay (Angie) Contrucci, Ann Marie (Sal) LoPorto and Nancy Hardesty. Her 10 grandchildren and her 8 (and 1 on the way) great grandchildren. They were all the love of her life.
Family and friends will be received On Friday November 16, from 10:30 to 11:00 at St Augustine Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial to follow. Interment will be at All Faiths Memorial Park, Casselberry, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hospice of the Comforter-- Foundation Department.
