Mary was born April 26, 1930 in Savannah, Georgia and grew up in Port Wentworth until she left to work in Washington D.C. at the Navy Annex. Upon returning to Savannah she met John on a blind date. After a brief romance, they were married in 1949 and she spent the next 28 years as an Air Force wife living in 20 different homes as a result of changing assignments. She graciously met the challenges of these moves involving changing schools for the kids, friends, etc. She and John retired in Altamonte Springs after 31 years of active duty.
As an Air Force wife, she supported her husband in every aspect of his Air Force career. Mary was a Gray Lady in Hawaii and Montgomery, Alabama. She actively supported her children’s activities during their school years. Also, during her younger years in Altamonte Springs she was active in the Spring Valley Women’s Club and Garden Club. Travel opportunities were plentiful and she especially enjoyed her time living in Puerto Rico and Hawaii. The love of seeing new places continued in retirement and she vacationed in many places, with a special love for the Republic of Ireland.
Her Life of 88 years will be celebrated with family and friends from 5:30-6:30pm Sunday evening, March 3, 2019 at Baldwin Funeral Home, 90 Weathersfield Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 with a reception immediately following. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11am Monday morning, March 4, 2019 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Parish, 861 Maitland Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to the “Hospice of the Comforter,” 480 west Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714.
