Born on January 7, 1945, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Peter was the son of Magdalen and Peter Diener Sr. and the younger brother of Betty, who was 13 years his senior. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, family, and dedication. Before enlisting in the United States Navy, he drove a milk truck for his grandparents’ dairy, beginning a lifelong pattern of working hard and taking pride in everything, he did.
Affectionately known as Pete, he was a kind and warm-hearted man with a patient nature and a generous spirit. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and if something needed fixing, he was the person everyone called. Whether repairing something around the house or taking on a project for someone else, Pete had a natural ability to figure things out and a genuine desire to help. His thoughtfulness and willingness to lend his time and talents were among the many qualities that made him so special to those who knew him.
Pete also had a lifelong love of music. As a teenager, he learned to play the drums and performed at local venues in New Jersey with his brother-in-law, as well as with friends. His love of music continued when he joined the United States Navy. While stationed in Sanford, Florida, he continued to play drums at local gigs, sharing his musical talents and bringing joy to audiences wherever he performed.
Pete enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965 and, following boot camp, was stationed at the naval base in Sanford, Florida. It was there that he met Ann, the woman who would become the love of his life. When he learned he would be transferred to Albany, Georgia, Pete knew he wanted Ann to be part of his future, and he proposed. They married and began their life together in Albany, making happy memories during their short time there. After completing four years of military service, they returned to Sanford and soon purchased the house that would become their forever home. Over the years, they renovated and expanded it several times, creating a place filled with family, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Pete and Ann shared 57 devoted years of marriage, building a life grounded in love, faith, and family. Their home reflected the life they created together, and Pete took great pride in all they had accomplished. Ann passed away in late 2025, and he carried the love and memories of their life together with him throughout his remaining days.
Education was another source of great pride for Pete. While working and managing the responsibilities of everyday life, he attended night school over several years to earn his bachelor’s degree from Florida Southern College. His determination and perseverance made this accomplishment especially meaningful to him. He remained a proud alumnus throughout his life, often wearing his Florida Southern shirts and displaying an alumni sticker on his car.
Pete brought the same dedication to his professional life. He took early retirement from UPS after 17 years in the marketing department and soon thereafter joined the Seminole County School Board as a mailroom manager, where he worked until his retirement. Along the way, he formed lasting friendships with many of his coworkers, often considering them an extension of his family. The relationships he built throughout his career remained important to him long after his working years had ended.
Faith was a constant presence in Pete’s life and at the center of his home. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church of Lake Mary for many years, serving on volunteer committees and singing in the choir. His faith was especially evident in the prayers he offered before family meals, particularly at Thanksgiving and Christmas. These prayers became treasured family traditions, reflecting his gratitude for the blessings in his life and the importance he placed on keeping God at the heart of his family.
Above all else, Pete’s greatest joy was his family. His children meant the world to him, and he loved his grandchildren just as deeply. He took pride in their lives and accomplishments and treasured the memories they created together. Being a husband, father, and grandfather was among the most meaningful parts of his life, and the love he had for his family was evident in the time he spent with them, the traditions he maintained, and the stories he loved to share.
When his son, Ryan, was young, Pete became a Boy Scout leader and especially enjoyed the opportunity to share in Ryan’s scouting adventures. He fondly remembered their hikes and camping trips, often reminiscing about those special times together. These memories remained close to his heart, reflecting not only his love of the outdoors but also the importance he placed on being present in his children’s lives and making memories that would last a lifetime.
Whether he was sharing a family meal, working on a project, recounting a favorite memory, or simply spending time with those he loved, Pete brought a quiet warmth and steady presence to the lives of others. He took great pride in the home he and Ann built together and in the family that grew from the life they shared. His kindness, humor, patience, and willingness to help were woven into the everyday moments that his loved ones will remember most.
Pete is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kristen Harris, and son-in-law, Walter Harris; his son, Ryan Diener, and daughter-in-law, Frenchen Ramos; his grandchildren, Charlotte, Ashton, Isabella, Noah, and Liam; his brother-in-law, Leon Steinmeyer Jr.; his sister-in-law, Celia Steinmeyer; his brother-in-law, Carl Thompson; his sister-in-law, Joyce Thompson; and several beloved nieces and nephews: Bruce, Jerry, Amy, Rebecca, Stephen, Marcus, and Brian.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Diener; his mother, Magdalen Diener; his father, Peter Diener Sr.; and his sister, Betty Pilosi.
Peter Michael Diener will be remembered for a life defined by faith, perseverance, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family. From his early days driving a milk truck and playing drums, to his service in the Navy, his dedication to his education and career, and the many years he spent building a life with Ann, Pete lived with purpose and a genuine care for others. He was a man who worked hard, kept his word, shared his talents freely, and found his greatest happiness in the people he loved.
Though his absence leaves a profound loss, his legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the faith he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless memories he leaves behind. The lessons he taught, the traditions he established, and the love he gave so freely will continue to be carried forward by those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
