

Dr. Richard “Dick” A. Copeland, Altamonte Springs, passed away March 6, 2020 after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Jeannette, PA, June 12, 1934 to the late Charles E. Copeland and Florence E. (Nestler) Copeland. Richard served in the US Navy as a dental officer for 30 years attaining the rank of Captain. His career duty stations included: NAS Quonset Point RI; aboard the USS Grand Canyon; MCB Quantico VA; aboard the USS Albany; MCAS Cherry Point NC; NB Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico; two tours of duty at NTC Orlando, FL; and, a tour at MCB Camp Pendleton CA. He was an avid golfer and tennis player (which he took VERY seriously). He honed his competitive nature playing football and running track at Jeannette High School (class of 1953) and West Liberty State College (now West Liberty University) class of 1958. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with his DDS in 1962 and entered the Navy that same year. He was a lifelong fan of PITT Panthers football and an early booster of the UCF Knights. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert F. and Charles E. Jr. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Jane (Gamble), sons Richard (Karen McKenna), Craig (Elizabeth Gronke), daughter, Marla, and grandchildren Lindsey (Alex) Funke, Timothy, Oliver, and Penelope. Visitation, Thursday, March 12, 5-8:30 pm at Baldwin-Fairchild, 994 E. Altamonte Dr., Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 {corner of 436 and Ronald Reagan Blvd.}. A Celebration of Life Service will be at Baldwin-Fairchild, 994 E. Altamonte Dr. Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 at 10:00 am, Friday, March 13.
