

Richard graduated from Dundalk High School as Valedictorian in 1951 then received his Mechanical Engineering degree in 1955 as Valedictorian from Johns Hopkins University, received his MSME degree and was involved in Johns Hopkins alumni activities throughout his life.
Wedded on July 6, 1957, Richard was married to Joan Singer for 46 years before her passing in 2003. Dick Howell had a career as a mechanical engineer at Lockheed Martin in Baltimore, MD then moved to Orlando, FL in 1967 and retired after 38 years. While at Martin Marietta, Dick worked on the Gemini and the Apollo rocket programs including the historic walk on the moon in 1969 and was director of the Patriot Missile Program during the Gulf War. The Patriot Missile System is still in use today around the world.
Dick was a Maitland City Councilman for 12 years (1974-1986) who had a passion for fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his two cats, Blondie and Dagwood.
Dick was one of five siblings; three have predeceased him which include Catherine (Paul) Skidmore, Forest (Barbara) Howell and Shirley (Tom) Coyle. He is survived by Daughters, Laura (Greg) Stark, Felicia (Tom) Kennedy, Wendy (Lou) Gasparri, Grandchildren, Haley Stark, Sarah (Josh) Dent, Molly Kennedy, and Kelly Kennedy. Sister, Charlotte (Don) Ricketts. He is also survived by his loving companion of 20 years, Barbara Lindenberg and many other family and friends to cherish his memory.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:00 am at the historic Maitland Cemetery in Maitland, Florida where Dick, during his years of public service on the Maitland Council, was involved in the restoration of the cemetery.
