Words. Loving, Kind, Heartfelt, Icon, Gentleman, Dapper, Loyal, Supportive, Beautiful, Mentor, Leader, Strong, Creative, Decisive, Faithful. All of these words were given from the heart by all who knew Richard (Dick) Reimiller. Words, not just in his passing but during his entire life.
Richard was born November 22, 1931 in the small township of Harwood Mines, Pennsylvania. He passed on January 12, 2021. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Jane Elizabeth Paisley and George Reimiller, and his siblings; David, George, John, Charles, Thomas, Arlene, Jean, Elaine, and Ruth. He is survived by his sister, Mary.
Richard is survived by his wife Doris Ann (Guay) Reimiller. His children; Elizabeth Ann Reimiller Felter (John), Rachel Jean Reimiller St. Pierre (George III), Doris Guay Reimiller Quintero (Daniel), Richard James Reimiller Jr, (Heather). His 9 grandchildren; Catherine, Julia, Laura, Jacqueline, Nicole, Danielle, Cristina, Caleb and Jacob, and 5 great-grandchildren; Isabella, Ella, Mya, Grace and Primrose.
After graduating high school, Richard joined the United States Navy where he served for 4 years in the Korean War. While in the Navy, he discovered he may have a talent for working in the food industry. He was introduced to the Marriott Family at a Veteran’s job fair in 1955, this was the start of a long and productive career. He was instrumental in helping the Marriott family grow their company. He met his wife Doris while they were both employed in the Marriott Hot Shoppes division and they married in 1956. Retiring after 23 years with Marriott he and the family moved to Florida where he continued to work in the restaurant business for several different companies.
His experience and expertise took him to Denver to promote a new restaurant and create menu items for “Le Peep”. While in Denver he was often a guest speaker at Denver University’s College of Hospitality and was granted an honorary degree. While in Denver, Richard embraced a spiritual journey and became Catholic. After several years in Denver he and Doris moved back to Florida.
When he returned to Florida he continued his career with Village Inn Restaurants. After retiring he couldn’t stay away from “food”. He decided to go back into the work force and became a Food Service Manager for Seminole County Public Schools. He enjoyed feeding the students and teachers and made many great friends.
Richard was an active member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. He took on many leadership and mentoring roles. He and Doris were inducted into “The Order of St. Mary Magdalen”. For years he volunteered in the Italian Food booth, contributed to the menu for the BBQ booth for their annual Community Fest. And when his legs couldn’t stand, he sat and he sold tickets for the raffle. He and Doris were instrumental in strengthening the Cursillo Movement. He was a retreat leader and sponsor for many men in this parish. He later took on the “lead” in the kitchen to provide the meals for parish and Cursillo retreats. In addition, he found the courage and belief in his beautiful voice to join the choir and become a cantor. Once he moved to his retirement community and worshiped at St Ann’s Catholic Church, he and his wife Doris established Cursillo there.
He wanted a better life for his family and made sure of that. The two most important things he strived to give his family were good educations and food on the table every day. He grew up poor and pledged that his family would never go to bed hungry. Food became his passion and his life’s love.
Richard James Reimiller - Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend, Mentor, Leader, Faithful Servant. A beautiful life well lived. Rich with service, joy, and love, dedicated to feeding body, mind, and soul. Forever a blessing and always in our hearts.
