Brooks obtained a theology degree from Emory University and his Masters of Social Work from the University of Georgia. He was active in Christian Ministry and mental health counselling during his career.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 34 years, Maria Hudson; children, Kirk and Lisa Hudson; step children, Janice Morgan and John Kerr; grandchildren, Will Hudson, Christy Morgan Bondurant and Brad Morgan.
