Wanda Zayas passed away on September 29, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by the family who loved her so much. After a long and difficult journey, we find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace, free from pain, and with the Lord she loved so deeply.
Wanda was born on November 10, 1954, in Juan Díaz, Puerto Rico, to Carmensila Vazquez and Felix Zayas. She moved to New York as a teenager, where she spent many years before eventually making her way to Florida. In 1991, Wanda and her family moved to Casselberry, which became home and the place where so many of our family's memories were made.
Wanda was a hard worker and spent 28 years at her credit union. Over those years, her coworkers became friends and an important part of her life. She was loyal, dedicated, and took great pride in the relationships she built along the way.
More than anything, Wanda loved her family. She was the mother of Nilexa, Erick, and Steven, and the very proud grandmother of Cole, Harper, Zayne, and Lorenzo. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her, and there was never any question about how deeply she loved them.
She also leaves behind her mother, Carmensila Vazquez and her siblings, Felix Jorge Zayas, Nancy Zayas, and Luis Zayas, and the memory of their brother Junior, who passed away in 2024. They shared a lifetime together, from growing up in Puerto Rico and New York to all the different chapters of life that followed.
Over the last two years, her siblings were also an important part of caring for Wanda and helping our family through some very difficult days. Her sister, Nancy, especially put her own life on hold and moved in to help care for her, giving her so much of her time, love, and patience. It meant more to Wanda, and to all of us, than words can really say. The memories they all shared together, including those with Junior, will always be such an important part of her story.
Wanda's faith was a huge part of who she was. She was a devoted Christian who truly loved the Lord and her church. She especially loved the people in her congregation, many of whom became like family to her. Her church brought her friendship, joy, comfort, and a sense of belonging, and her faith carried her through some of the hardest moments of her life.
And, of course, you couldn't really know Wanda without knowing how much she loved the New York Yankees. She was a true Yankees fan through and through, and it was just one of those things that was so completely her.
There are so many things we will miss about our mom and so many memories that could never possibly fit into an obituary. Her life was about the people she loved - her family, her friends, her church family, and the relationships she built throughout the years.
We will miss her more than words can say, but after watching her go through so much, we are grateful that she is no longer suffering.
We will celebrate Wanda's life on Monday at 11:00 AM at El Redentor (6971 Red Bug Lake Road, Oviedo, FL 32765). The funeral service will be held from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, with a reception immediately following at the church.
Everyone who knew and loved our mom is welcome to join us as we remember her, celebrate her life, and say goodbye.
Our mom's faith and her church meant so much to her, so in lieu of flowers, we would love to honor her by supporting El Redentor's food pantry, which helps families and members of the community each week.
If you would like to contribute in her memory, you can bring non-perishable food items directly to the church or make a donation through www.elredentor.net (http://www.elredentor.net/). For online donations, please note "Pantry Donation."
We can't think of a more meaningful way to honor our mom than by giving back to the church and community she loved so dearly.
