Pete Gonzales was born June 17, 1934 in Gonzales, Texas to Melquiades and Ruby Gonzales. A premature baby born to a young mother, his strength and will to live began with his first breath. And he thrived! He was the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. As a young man, he was blessed with his first child, a daughter named Ruby; followed by 5 more children, Calvin, John, Michael, Eva, and Gina. When he was 26, he met the love of his life. He met the woman who would be by his side for the rest of his life, Alice Sandoval. Together they made a life. They had four children together, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Dad was always a provider, a nurturer. He adored his children and grandchildren.
He was employed by Sunshine Cracker Co. for 16 years followed by the Keebler Cookie company for over 30 years. He was a valued employee whose work ethic was an example for his coworkers and his children. But his true objective in how hard he worked was simply to provide as best as he could for his family. And the family always had everything they needed. We are all so appreciative to him for the life he worked so hard to give us. He was a spiritual leader for the family, attending church every Sunday and always expressing his love for God.
Before and after retirement, his favorite hobbies included gardening, spending time at the lake with family, drawing, carving wood and fixing anything that was broken.
If you knew Pete, you know he was a Gemini. Definitely two sides to that man. On one hand, he was the most loving, giving, devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family with his whole heart. He loved God even more. He would have given you the shirt off his back without hesitation. He was an angel. And then there’s the other side...Dad was unbelievably stubborn, and he loved to argue. He always won because he was always right! No matter what.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Irene Gonzales Selestino, Angie Gonzales, Janie Gonzales Rios, Helen (Peewee) Gonzales, and brother Calvin Gonzales. Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife Alice, sons Calvin, John, and Michael Gonzales, daughters Eva Bradley and Gina Zottola; grandchildren Eric Gonzales, Bethany Hedges, Nathaniel Gonzales, Mathew Gonzales, Hannah Bradley, Havin Bradley, Alicia Gonzales, Kyler Brandt, Nina Brant, Nicholas Brandt, and five great grandchildren. He also leaves behind four brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loving family and dear friends.
