Alana Barclay was born in 1952 in Lubbock, Texas, she built that relentless attitude and sense of duty through her formative years and the relationships she always cherished. With Wisdom & Grit, Alana Barclay Was the Heart of Her Family
Alana Barclay was never one to take a day off from living her best life. She always had a job to do, a life to live, grandkids to love, and once upon a time, two children to raise who benefited the most from her astounding ability to roll up her sleeves and get to work.
Perhaps the greatest products of her decades of contributions were her sons Chad and Chance. Little came easy for her as a single mother, yet she provided steady waters that allowed both boys to aspire and build successful careers and lives.
Alana gave of herself and ran her kids to schools, practices, games, and events, never allowing Chad or Chance to know how hard it all was. She gave her sons a great gift in that way, but her efforts were part of a bigger theme for Alana’s life.
She just showed up. Without fail. Without exception. Alana continued to show up in a fight for her life. She refused to lose that fight for years through strokes and complications and an inability to leave her bed at times. She marched ahead, one day, one breath at a time until the fight came to an end on Feb. 4. Alana was inspired through the whole journey and refused to bend to the will of any hardship or illness.
Some of Alana’s sources of enjoyment included TV shows Roseanne, Fear Factor, and Days of Our Lives, along with slot machines and just about anything done on a boat or snowmobile.
Alana wrote her own book on being a standup mother, sister, wife, and friend. She was always ready to give of herself to the people she loved. And that’s part of her ultimate legacy to those who loved her: she was tough as nails but always ready to serve her family.
Her mother, Pauletta, was her best friend and they lived together before her mom’s passing.
Bessie was her “Days of Our Lives” buddy, and they were always up for watching and discussing their favorite soap opera.
Alana met her admiring husband, Deryle Barclay, in 1981, and they were married in 1994. They have been together for thirty years, all of which started with Alana asking Deryle to dance. They love to be together and stand in support of each other, for better or worse.
She is survived by two sons Chad and Chance and his wife Rebecca. Three granddaughters Alana, Avery, and Haven, and one grandson Grayson. Brother Myles Hanna and wife Karlena
Niece; Kalen Hanna, nephew; Brandon Hanna, and a great nephew; Luke Weller.
Alana was preceded in death by her mother Pauletta Pruitt, her father Kenneth Hanna, and her brother Brad Hanna.
Of course, Alana gave anything and everything she could to contribute to their happiness.
Alana spoke lovingly of family members past and present and shared with all who will listen about her time with her cousin, aunt, and uncle
She will forever be known for the time she made for other people, the role she played in the growth of her family, and for having a hard enough head to commit and follow her own instincts.
In doing so, Alana went down the bumpiest, happiest road she could have ever imagined. She’ll forever have a family that loves and appreciates how steadfast she has been in their lives through ups and downs.
Many, many people would be worse off if they had never known Alana and the fact she always had their back. That will never be forgotten.
