Arnold was born in Quinton, Oklahoma on January 6, 1928. He passed away on August 13, 2025. He was the fourth of seven children born to Robert and Willie Bell White, but the first to survive beyond early childhood Arnold said he was told by his mother that when he was born, the doctor said "Willie Bell, this boy is healthy, and he's going to make it." That doctor obviously knew what he was talking about, as Arnold blessed the lives of all who knew him for over 97 years. He was proud to say he got the Choctaw blood, because his mother was of the Choctaw Indian lineage, and gave him his dark and handsome complexion that resulted in his siblings affectionately giving him his nickname of "Brownie". He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1947, and was stationed in Saipan and Guam and assigned to the Construction Brigade, also known as the Seabees. In 1947, he married Twila Ann Lax, and together they had four children, Judy, Bertha, Terry, and Larry. In 1967, he married Dorothy Brockman. Dorothy's children, Jerry and Nancy quickly became part of Arnold's life, and he loved them as his own. Dorothy passed away in 2003. In 2004, he married Maxine Hadley, and Maxine's two daughters, Debbie and Jennie became beloved members of Arnold's family. Maxine passed away in 2022. Arnold was skilled mechanic, a licensed plumber, and general handyman. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, and he generously shared his skills with anyone and everyone, and almost never said no to a request for help. He was a model Christian, and radiated many fruits of the Spirit, especially love, joy, patience, kindness, and gentleness. He was a member of the Baptist church, and served in many capacities, including driving the bus for youth trips, and teaching a men's Sunday School class for many years. He had a keen sense of humor, and everyone who knew him loved him dearly. We will miss his presence, but his sweet spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wives, and two daughters, Nancy and Jennie.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Judy Thornton, Bertha Potter, and Debbie Moore and husband Chuck, and his sons, Terry White and wife Melissa, Larry White and wife Crystal, and Jerry Brockman, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. The family would like to acknowledge and express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the wonderful and caring staffs of Brookdale Sleepy Hollow assisted living center, and BSA Hospice of the Southwest.
We will celebrate Arnold's life on Monday, August 18th, in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Amarillo, with graveside services to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Amarillo, BSA Hospice of the Southwest, or a favorite charity.
