Affectionately known as “Mam-Maw,” Betty was born October 12, 1934, in Portales, New Mexico. She married the love of her life, Jerry Stidham, lovingly known as “Paw-Paw,” on May 19, 1961. Together they built a life centered on family, love, and simple joys.
A woman of deep roots and vibrant spirit, Mam-Maw was the true matriarch of her family. Her hands were rarely still. If they weren’t dusted with flour from her legendary baking, they were pressed into the soil of her beloved flower beds. She had a special love for gardening and was especially proud of her prize-winning roses Betty believed that with enough sunshine, water, and patience, anything could grow—a philosophy she applied not only to her garden but to her children and grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, and nurturing spirit touched everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her two sons, Truett Massey and Jerry Massey; two daughters, Jackie Frausto and Rita Allison; nine grandchildren, Trent Massey, Shawn Massey, Chris Frausto, Anita Stone, Joshua Massey, and others dearly loved; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Stidham; her grandson, Ronnie Massey; her parents, R.H. Rodgers and Tennie Maye Rodgers; three sisters; two brothers; and her grandmother, Ida Rebecca Williams Charles.
Betty’s legacy of love, family, and faith will continue to grow—just like the gardens she so carefully tended.
