Billy Jerald “Jerry” Taylor, 85, died March 3, 2022. Services will be held at Coulter Road Baptist Church, 4108 Coulter, Monday, March 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Mike Dickey officiating. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park, 6969 I-40 East, March 6, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Growing up in Mobeetie, he played all sports. He became an All State quarterback in High School. In his adult years, he enjoyed racing stock cars at the Amarillo Speedbowl. He will be inducted into the Amarillo Area Motorsports Hall of Fame later this year. He also raced horses, lawnmowers, and did tractor pulls as well. After having children, he guided them on how to build and race their soapbox cars. He taught his children that “if you are going to do it, do it the right way.”
He is survived by his wife Betty Burton Taylor; three sons, Ross Taylor and wife Kemi, of Cleburne, Greg Taylor and wife Mylinda, of Arlington, and Bryan Taylor and wife Connie, of Muleshoe; daughter, Starla Taylor Goodlin, of Amarillo; three step-sons, Terry Mackey and wife Serena, Troy Mackey and wife Colleen, and Blaine Burton and wife Tanya; seven grandchildren, Sebastian Roys, Stephanie and husband Jason Gotcher, Kristin Taylor, Kala and husband Marlon Winn, Gill and wife Aubrey Taylor, Colt and Grace Taylor, and Myles and wife Brandi James; and 8 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Josiah and Isaiah Roys, Enzley, Qnyley, Priley and Ajaley Winn, Matthew Gotcher, and Taylee, Jevin and Tynslee James.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lataine Averilla Taylor and two grandchildren, Ty Nolan Taylor and Steven Lance Taylor.
