Bruce W Jones "Doc J"

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2014, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Pastors Scott Raines and Steve Stephens officiating.

The family will have a private graveside service following the memorial, conducted by Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors

Bruce was born July 9, 1947 to Jack Doyle and Martha Jane Jones in Lubbock. He was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1964. Bruce enlisted in the US Navy and served in Vietnam. Later, he served as a Corpsman with the US Marines, Amarillo Reserves. Bruce received the Distinguished Service Cross for his service in Desert Storm.

In 1969, he met his partner in life, Susan Heiser. The couple wed in 1972 and made their home in Amarillo. He was a Chemist at Northwest Texas Hospital for 20 years, then worked at The Pavilion, retiring in 2014. Bruce loved people and never met a stranger. He lived for his family and grandchildren.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Jack D. Jones and a sister, Kathi Jones Boyd.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Susan Jones; a son, Brian W. Jones and wife Sunnye of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Tricia and Julie Jones both of Amarillo; his mother, Jane Jones; a brother, David S. Jones of Lubbock; and 5 grandchildren, Jack D. Jones II, Benjamin Jones, Sarah Jones, Jennifer Jones and Esther Jones, all of Amarillo.
