Born in Amarillo on May 30, 1948, to Henry Harvey Whitfield and Flora Emily Whitfield. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1966 and went on to receive a diploma in Airline Reservations and Ticketing in 1967. Her passion for learning and professional development continued throughout her life. She earned a license in Real Estate Finance in 1978, completed para-professional interpreting for the deaf in 1977, and received a certificate in Employment Law Compliance, along with several student scholar awards. Carri earned her Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
She dedicated much of her career to human resources, serving as Director of Human Resources at both Texas Woman’s University and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. She also organized professional conferences and authored a human resources textbook for the university system. Carri embraced life fully and had many passions. She loved skiing, snorkeling, traveling, hiking, swimming, working out, golfing, and sunbathing. She adored her dogs and was an active member of several country clubs throughout her life.
Carri is survived by her brothers, Ronny Whitfield and Jerry Whitfield, both of Amarillo, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Henry Whitfield.
Carri’s intelligence, energy, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
