Charlie Gene Melear, a devoted family man and longtime resident of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was a kind-hearted man who valued faith, family, and the simple joys of life. Born to Charlie W. Melear and Mabel Lovett, Charlie grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, tending to his yard, and spending quality time with his family. He was also an avid bowler and golfer, passions that brought him many years of joy.
After high school Charlie joined the US Army where he served from 1945 to 1949, in the 5th Army 88th Blue Devil Division 752nd Tank Battalion. He served in Italy during the northern occupation on the "Belching Betsy." He joined the US Air Force in 1951 and served until his retirement in 1968. Charlie worked for many years as an apartment manager and was a proud member of Oakdale Pentecostal Church, where he built lasting friendships and shared his faith with others.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maggie V. Melear, as well as his parents, Charles W. Melear and Mabel Lovett Wheat; sons Chuck Melear and Calvin J. Melear; siblings, Bryant Wheat, Boyd Wheat, Charles W. Wheat, Larry Wheat, Hubert Wheat, Marie Wheat, and Mary Wheat.
Charlie is survived by his loving son, Bill H. Melear; sisters Luella Wheat and Becky Wheat; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Charlie will be remembered as a man of integrity and love whose life was a blessing to all who knew him.
