Darren Liles, age 59, passed away peacefully on his birthday, September 5, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Crossroads Country Church, 14425 FM 1541 in Amarillo, Texas, with Pastor Bob Miller officiating.
Darren was born in Amarillo, Texas, on September 5, 1965, to Kenneth Wayne and Audrey Ann Liles. He grew up in Amarillo alongside his brother Dennis and graduated from Caprock High School in the class of 1984, where he formed lifelong friendships and excelled in both basketball and baseball. He was especially honored to have attended his 40-year high school reunion shortly before his passing.
A hardworking and skilled craftsman, Darren spent most of his adult life in construction, becoming a highly respected finish carpenter and a proud member of the Local 665 Carpenter Union. He was also part of the Liles family business, Texas Overhead Door Company, where the Liles brothers were well-known and loved for their dedication and workmanship.
Darren had a love for adventure and play that spanned from childhood into adulthood. Whether it was skateboards, mini bikes, race cars, or horses, he enjoyed it all—but perhaps his greatest passion was his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He also loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, and skiing in the mountains.
Above all, Darren was proud of his faith. He loved the Lord and found peace in knowing he would one day be with Him. After a courageous five-year battle with cancer, he looked forward to the joy of being in heaven.
Darren is survived by his daughter Megan Marshburn, son-in-law Ross Marshburn, and grandsons Alex and Preston Marshburn of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also survived by his parents Kenneth and Audrey Liles, and his brother Dennis Liles of Amarillo, Texas.
Darren was known for his wit and sense of humor, often joking that, as the only left-handed member of his family, he was the only one in his "right mind."
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Karen Graham for her many months of caregiving, love, and support for Darren. A special thanks also to Brian Seymour, his nurse, and all the BSA hospice staff for their compassionate care during his final days.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
