

David was born December 8, 1942 to Samuel and Nellie Croot VanPatten in Schenectady, New York. David married Roberta Duran in Waco, Texas on May 18, 1963. David served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Sergeant, serving two tours of duty in the Korean War.
David was an armored car driver, operated a gas station, worked on tube televisions and ran an appliance business. David confessed his faith in Jesus and was baptized in the San Jacinto Baptist Church.
David is preceded in death by his wife Roberta Duran, Mia Phillips and McKinley Phillips.
Left on this earth to carry on his legacy are his daughter Terry VanPatten Barnes, four sisters Lola, Della, Mary Ann and Helen, two brothers Richard and Nicky, three granddaughters Michaella (Michelle) Johnson, Cheyanne Jimenez and Dakota Dunavin, three great-grandchildren Adain Johnson, Jenavieve Rena Bowen and Marlee Mae Dunavin.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St., Amarillo, Texas 79109. A graveside service will occur Friday, September 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 Texas Plains Trail, I27, Amarillo, Texas 79119.
