Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Home Pioneer Chapel, with Pastor John Love officiating. .

Dewey was born January 28, 1920 in Tolbert to Dewey and Ida Mae Dockery. She grew up in Tolbert and Bugscuffle, Texas. Dewey graduated from Vernon High School in 1938 and married Dennis Ward in 1940 in Frederick, OK. The couple made their home in Shamrock and then in Amarillo. Dewey was Secretary for the Amarillo Country Club Women’s Golf Association. She married Frank Elkins in 1963 and managed various apartments in Amarillo. The couple lived at the Palo Duro Club where Dewey enjoyed arrowhead hunting, fishing, needlework and painting. She currently resided at Craig Methodist Assisted Living. While there, she won several awards at the state level in senior arts for embroidery. She was loved by many and loved many. She will be deeply missed.

Dewey was preceded in death by her parents;

Dewey is survived by 2 sons, Barry Ward and wife Phyllis of New Braunfels and Lynn Ward and wife Kathy of Amarillo’ 2 daughters, Penny Zielinski and husband Ed of Rockport and Rebecca Ann Hudson of Leander: a brother, Kenneth Dockery of Amarillo; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to BSA Hospice, Craig Methodist or League House
