Doris Arlene Knight Slocum, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with Jerry Davey officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.
Doris Arlene Knight Slocum was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Newton, Iowa, to Cornell and Ruth Knight. In November 1959, she married George Slocum Sr. He passed away in 1984. She received her LVN at St. Anthony’s and worked in doctor’s offices in Portland; Kansas City, Kan., and Miami, Fla. Doris worked for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Amarillo, worked at St. Mary’s Catholic School and was the secretary at St. Hyacinth’s under Monsignor Dibenedetto for 15 years. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, George Slocum Sr.; parents; and sisters, Shirley Lamberson, Clarice Steinkirchner and Nelldean Bagwell. Survivors include her son, George Slocum Jr. of Amarillo, and many nieces and nephews.
