

Dorothy Marie Latta, 81 of Amarillo passed away December 24, 2014. Celebration of Life services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Dorothy was born February 8, 1933 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Albert and Margaret Weibel. She graduated from Fort Supply High School in 1951. She married Ernest Latta on April 3, 1951 in Clayton, New Mexico and shared 63 years of marriage. During those years, they lied in California, Iowa, Oklahoma and eventually in Texas, where she had resided since 1970. She was an accomplished seamstress and needlepoint artist and enjoyed word games and jigsaw puzzles. She was an excellent cook and welcomed any and all into her home and to her table. She could always find room for one more. Dorothy’s strong will and compassionate heart were the foundation of her character. Her adult life was centered around her family, as her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her five grandsons lovingly called her “Nan”. Her entire family will be forever grateful for her giving spirit and loving nature. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Latta of Amarillo; son, Mark Latta of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Marsha Hutchins and husband David of Amarillo; five gradsons, Brant, Adam and Daniel Latta and Jared and Trevor Hutchins; two great-grandchildren; niece, Karen Hafling of Arvada, Colorado; nephew, Gerald Hudson of Prescott, Arizona and many other nieces and nephews.
