AMARILLO — Douglas B. Street, 68, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Doug was born in Newark, N.J., on March 15, 1957.
Doug dedicated over 50 years to the food service industry. He began his career in 1973, eventually serving in sales and executive leadership roles for SYSCO Corporation (Philadelphia, PA; Houston, TX; Harrisonburg, VA; Cleveland, OH), US Foods (Houston, TX), and PFG (Temple, TX). In 2014, he moved to Amarillo to serve as Director of Food Service for Affiliated Foods, Inc., a position he held until his retirement in January 2025.
Doug was "highly self-motivated" and "goal-oriented" in everything he touched. In the business world, he was the man you called when you needed growth, leadership, and a way to win against the odds.
He had a rare gift for building things, exponentially growing sales, and building successful teams everywhere he went. Doug was a natural leader who knew how to motivate and train others to be their best. But Doug’s true legacy isn't in the budgets he managed or the awards he won; it is in the people he mentored, the relationships he built, and the immense pride he took in seeing others grow and succeed.
A dedicated member of the Amarillo community, Doug was actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau. He often shared his storied career with culinary students to encourage their pursuit in the foodservice industry. He was particularly passionate about his work with Make-A-Wish, raising awareness, fundraising, and granting wishes to children in the Amarillo community.
Doug may have lost his physical battle to cancer, but he won in life. He leaves us with his kindness, resilience, and determination that will never be forgotten. We will miss his humor, his laughter, his dance moves, and his uplifting spirit. Doug loved being outdoors, whether it was "business" travel - often just a wonderful excuse to enjoy the sun and the people he loved—working in the yard, or just enjoying the sunset on the patio with his coffee in hand. It was his place of serenity.
Doug often said, “I’ll get through this, I’ll be alright. God isn’t done with me yet.” No, Doug, He is not, memories of who you were, what you did for others, your wit and wisdom will live on in the hearts you touched forever.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; his sons, Jason Street, Travis Street and wife Bella; his sister Heather Gennaula and family; Kim’s children, Andrew and Jordyn Rollins, Jace and Kate Young; and two beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Maurice Street.
The family wishes to thank the many medical teams for their expertise, compassion, and warm blankets that brought him comfort—and for allowing us to simply focus on living life. We are forever grateful.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 10, 2026 at 2:00 pm. at Hillside Christian Church, located at 6100 S. Soncy, Amarillo, Texas, 79119, in the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
