The family will receive friends for a viewing from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel.
Doyle was born March 4, 1936, in Evansville, Indiana to Elmer and Frieda Oberbeck. He graduated High school in 1954 and went on to serve 5 years in the United States Air Force. Doyle married the love of his life, Gail Evans, on September 19, 1956. They shared 37 wonderful years of marriage. Together they were blessed with two sons, Dirk and Drew. Doyle was a devoted father and coached their football and baseball teams. Doyle was a hard worker and mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, until his retirement. He had a host of interests, hobbies and skills, including football, gardening, photography, jewelry making, traveling abroad, bicycle repairs and reading his bible. Doyle had a passion for racetracks which led to him successfully raising championship thoroughbreds and greyhounds. He would frequent resale shops of Amarillo where he would purchase bikes to repair to give away and leave in parks for those in need. Doyle was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo where he taught Sunday school and worked at the Family Life Center after his retirement. He loved to talk to everyone and never met a stranger. He was a man of great advice and meditation and would always counsel people through any of life's troubles or relationship and marital problems. Doyle was a unique man, and his family is very proud of him for his accomplishments throughout his life. He will be greatly missed.
Prior to his passing he was a resident of the Amarillo VA Community Living Center where he was loved and adored by all. He was quite the favorite because he was an extremely positive person and looked after everybody. He was very generous and loved to treat the staff to a soda, candy, flowers, tools and even a phone charging station for all. He would lend a listening ear to anyone including staff and residents at the facility. He loved Jesus deeply and would want you to know Jesus!
Doyle was preceded in death by his wife Gail in 1993 and his parents.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his sons, Dirk Oberbeck & (Sandy Adams) of Amarillo, and Drew Oberbeck & (Phil Lucier) of Arizona; his siblings, Donald Oberbeck, Dale Oberbeck & (Susie), and Delma Oberbeck; his grandchildren, Tatum & (Eric), Nicole & (Levi), and DJ & (Risa); and his great-grandchildren, Ryne, Shane, Kyler, Caleb, Easton, and Rylan.
