Elvin had loving siblings who were active and supportive in his life. Elvin moved into Advo Companies on May 28, 1991 and was the longest residing resident at Hampton group home. Elvin’s father was a landscaper by trade into why, Elvin loved his shovels. He had the largest and most extensive collection of shovels which covered his garage. He inventoried his shovels daily. You could fill a room with the spiral notebooks he filled with his inventory. Elvin could be heard daily playfully reprimanding fellow workers and employees, which often meant sending them to the “Doghouse”. He was ever the prankster, teasing everyone with his remote-control snake. Elvin was fondly referred to as “Bulldog” and he lovingly pinned this name for those he loved. There are so many amazing stories of Elvin which will be told for years within the halls of Advo regarding Elvin’s’ landscaping escapades, from mowing the neighbor’s yards to high jacking their shovels because they weren’t maintained to his standards but, the one which will be told most often were his rumored shenanigans of chasing tail and drinking whiskey. Elvin was a sweet soul with an ornery heart. Although these were never confirmed, he sure could tell a great story to make you chuckle and believe every word. Everyone has their own Elvin’ism, one which will forever be told for years to come because one thing is for sure, Elvin Hargrave was and always will be a gift from God not to be duplicated.
