The journey began on February 20, 1938 while my parents were passing through Kress, Texas following the harvest. I decided to make my entrance and this is where I apparently got my green thumb. I was welcomed by my older brother Clif, and my parents Floyd and Juanita McNabb.
During my childhood we moved and traveled many different places. I learned how to hunt, fish and grow crops in order to have food on the table. I guess you could say this is why I struggled sitting still very long. My brother and I were ecstatic when our little sister Cozetta came into our lives, more so that mom would have another girl in the family, but also someone that I could boss around.
I met Sherry in high school and I just could not take my eyes off of her. She kept me in line and was always willing to go on the crazy adventures that my heart needed. We decided to get married on August 3, 1958, and our story only got better from there. We traveled the world and made the best memories. I can't tell you how many golf courses we got to play on, how many countries we got to see and amazing people we got to meet during all our travels. We were blessed with three children, but as circumstances went on the one who was there for me through it all was Quint. He was a stubborn child, but the upbringing he had made him capable of all the challenges being my son would bring him. He was there for me through Sherry's death, cancer and then ultimately the end. Quinton and his wife Stacie blessed me with two grandkids, Blake and Devin. I got to enjoy many baseball and volleyball games, family trips as well as passing on my great knowledge about life. I was fortunate to become a great grandpa to six amazing children. Blake and Kate blessed me with Karter, Lakyn, Kagen and Blayklee. Chris and Devin blessed me with Clay and Maylee; the enjoyment and pride that I felt having these young people in my life is something that is unexplainable.
When I was not doing all the grandpa duties I had the privilege of serving with the Texas Baptist Men; Texans on Mission. This is something that I was able to be a part of while Sherry was still alive but was also something that got me through her passing. I was able to develop friendships with people that I hold so close to my heart. I cannot tell you the amount of trips, people and trees that we encountered. The group of people that are involved with this organization are truly one of a kind. They love the Lord as much as myself and being surrounded by them in my final days was something that made that time so much easier. My relationship with God was such a blessing and being able to disciple for Him my whole life was an honor, because in the end that is truly all that matters. "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23.
