She was born in Republican City, Nebraska on October 22, 1925, to Lloyd William and Jessie Mae (Marshall) Grant. She began life on a farm near Republican City, where she lived with her parents and two brothers, Kyle Leland Grant, and Willis Melvin Grant.
In the Spring of 1942, Eunice graduated from Huntley High School at the age of 16. The next year, she enrolled in the Lincoln School of Commerce where she completed a secretarial course and then began working for The Nebraska Farmer, a local paper.
In the Fall of 1945, Eunice enrolled in college at Union College, in Lincoln Nebraska. After her freshman year at Union, she accepted a position to work as a secretary for the Seventh-Day Adventist Hawaiian headquarters. She booked passage on The Mariposa, a ship bound for Honolulu, and began her work there in October of 1946, continuing in that position until the Fall of 1948 when there was a need for a Kindergarten teacher on the Big Island of Hawaii. Eunice spent her last of three years in Hawaii teaching 4-year-olds on the Big Island.
In the Fall of 1949, Eunice returned to Union College to continue her college education. While there she met and fell in love with Everett LeRoy Fisher. They were married on August 26, 1951, at the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln. They both graduated from college on May 31, 1953, she with a major in Secretarial Science and minors in English, Religion, and Education.
After graduation, Eunice and Everett moved to Platte Valley Academy, near Shelton, Nebraska, where Everett worked as the Assistant Farm Manager and interim Boys' Dean. On December 9, 1953, their first daughter, Charlene Eunette was born. On April 30, 1955, a second daughter, Retta Lynn joined the family.
In 1956, Eunice and Everett accepted an invitation to become Seventh-Day Adventist missionaries, arriving at Colegio Adventista de Chile on October 12, 1956. Eunice and her family served there for 12 years, Everett as the Farm Manager for the school, and Eunice as a teacher. During their years in Chile, on October 5, 1958, Eunice gave birth to the couple's third daughter, Dorane Lei.
The Fishers returned to the United States in the Fall of 1968 and settled in Lincoln for a year while Everett earned a Masters' Degree from the University of Nebraska. After that, the family lived in New Mexico for a time, finally returning to Platte Valley Academy in Nebraska. At each of these locations, Eunice worked, sometimes as a secretary, sometimes as a teacher, sometimes both.
In January 1976, Everett passed away after a battle with Multiple Myeloma. Eunice remained at Platte Valley Academy until her daughter Dorane graduated from High School in 1977. Eunice then moved to Amarillo, Texas where she worked for the Texico Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists as a secretary. In January of 1987, Eunice accepted a position as a translator for the Seventh-Day Adventist Division office in Brasilia, Brazil, where she lived and worked until July of 1990. In the years that followed, Eunice lived again in Amarillo, Texas until she retired. In 2007 she moved to Perryton, Texas, where she spent her remaining years.
Eunice is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Bill & Charlene Chapman of Perryton, Texas, Jan & Retta Michaelis of Loma Linda, California, and Charles & Dorane Brower of Gresham, Oregon. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Eunice was known for her faith in God, and her love for family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a charity of your choice.
