

Evelyn Moore of Amarillo died Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday February 13, 2016 at Jenkins Chapel Baptist church, 1801 N. Hughes St. with Elder Herman Moore, pastor of Carter Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, officiating; and the Rev. Phillip Randle pastor of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Church as Eulogist. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Evelyn Moore, the first of two daughters born to Fennie and Tallie Smith in Montgomery, Texas. From an early age, she was brought up in the Methodist Chapel Baptist in the late 1940's, under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.W. Wade. Evelyn remained a faithful member of Jenkins Chapel until her health failed. Following her graduation from Patten High School and Prairie View college in 1948, she was married to James Norman for 13 years, who was a career Serviceman. After marriage they moved to Tokyo, Japan and later lived all over the USA and Europe. To this union four children were born. In the early1960's Evelyn integrated the local postal service as a clerk. During her tenure she was chosen to attend postal schools in Oklahoma City, Florida and Washington D.C. Several years later, she was chosen to be an "Interim Postmaster" in Pecos and Friona which ended when she was promoted to Manager of the Downtown and North Amarillo Post Offices. Evelyn remained Manager of both post offices until she retired in 1988. In 1961, she was united in holy matrimony to Eddie Moore; and this union lasted almost 50 years, until his death in December 2010. They had one son, Edward, who preceded them in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister, Doris Henry. Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Christy Davis of Amarillo; three sons, James Norman of Atlanta, Georgia, Fennie Norman of Fort Worth and Royce Norman of Dallas. Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one niece and a host of cousins and friends.
