

Franklin James, a man of steadfast faith and unwavering devotion to his family, passed away on February 27, 2026. Born on March 12, 1937, in Childress, Texas, to Elbert Lee James and Cora Lee Franklin. Franklin lived a life defined by service, hard work, and a generous spirit. A proud veteran, Franklin entered the United States Navy in 1957, beginning a lifelong commitment to his country and community. Following his military service, he built a career rooted in dedication, working for the City of Amarillo starting in 1961, and later joining P&M Mining in Gallup, New Mexico, in 1979. Franklin’s greatest joy was found in his family and his relationship with the Lord. A man of strong faith, he raised his family to know and follow God, leading by example with a kind heart and helping hand. He was the neighbor who would do anything for a friend and the patriarch who cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. His legacy of love and service will be carried forward by the generations he so deeply impacted.
Survived by: His daughter, Mary Ann Zartun; his grandson, Elmer Paul Robertson and wife Melissa Marie Bernick Robertson; his grandson, Christopher John Franklin Zartun and wife Kasey Lea Simms Zartun; his grandson, Daniel Scott Ferrell Zartun and wife Heather Ann Treese Ferrell; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Paul Robertson, Harlie Syanne Zartun, Grace Evanie Zartun, Mason Cooper Ferrell, and Mya Elise Ferrell; and his siblings, Dorsey Wayne James and Mariann Powierza James, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends. Preceded in Death by: His beloved wife, Lois Marie McCullen James; his daughter, Donn Cora James; his parents, Elbert Lee James and Cora Lee James; his granddaughter, Tronnie Marie Zartun; and his brother, Benny Joe James. Service will be held March 7, 2026 at 3:00 pm Memorial Park Cemetery
