He was born April 5, 1941 in Lubbock Texas to Leonard and Vera Mae Joplin. Gerald served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1966, stationed in Florida for two years and then stationed in Arizona for two more years. He married the love of his life, Janice Greer in 1984 and together they shared 20 years. Gerald worked various jobs from data processing, working at the High Plains Baptist as a dishwasher, traffic engineering for the City of Amarillo and maintenance for the Amarillo Civic Center then retired. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist for 36 years, where his faith grew strong in the Lord. Gerald loved to sing in the Church choir, enjoyed dominoes, bingo, and old westerns.
He is preceded in death by his father Leonard D. Joplin of Waco, mother Vera Brunk of Amarillo, Stepfather Hanford Brunk of Amarillo, and brother Ronald W. Joplin of Boaz Alabama.
He is survived by his wife Janice Greer Joplin, brother Leon Joplin of Rule, Texas, sister Linda Joplin Brattin of Rule, Texas, two nieces, five nephews, and many great- nieces and nephews. Gerald will be truly missed by both friends and family.
