Mrs. Stansell was born on February 3, 1924 in Haskell, TX to Alice and Henry Arend. She graduated from Littlefield high School. She married Thomas D. Stansell on September 11, 1945 in Hobbs NM. Gertrude was a member of Irwin Road Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and loving mother to sons Craig and Tommy. She eventually worked outside of the home at the YMCA and Omega’s Dress Shop. She had such descriptive stories and fond memories of growing up on the family farm with her five siblings. She enjoyed quilt making, cooking delicious meals, especially her famous brownies and Christmas cookies that she cooked on her Okeefe and Merritt stove that still looks like new after 65 years. She had an infectious smile and laugh.
